I decided to take these up to Abasin today. The skis were made around 1920 - before metal edges or ridgetop skis. Also sporting the wool German army pants from WWII. That's a modern salomon binding mounted on there, but it's only there because they told me that I needed it to ride the lift. Come visit us at http://www.coloradoskiauthority.com

  • naw, never seemed to get over my ADHD so knitting is way out. I like working on my cars so I'll probably do some of that but I will always ski. I might slow down a little but I always figured that if I killed myself skiing, it would be a pretty good way to go. Many of the alternatives are much more unpleasant. Interesting that you should mention snowshoes. I just got word that my niece won the silver (not at the Olympics) at a meet. And no, the do never forget (30+ years later).

  • @vbdenny - ouch. may I suggest taking up knitting? X-country & snowshoes are more my style now...I don't mind a tumble, I just don't want to hospitalize anyone else...particularly with friends watching...they never forget (30 years later)

  • I'm better now, or at least the boards are better. Been skiing for many decades, never been hurt badly. Last year though, my brother and I were skiing up at Gore Mt just about this time of year and he broke both legs. He skied like I did so I'm trying to crank it back a notch or two.

  • Sounds like you're hard on skis, my friend!

'course, my skiing experience was hard on the people involved....the ski patrol had to run a shuttle...

But, I like the old stuff. I like that your local resources are all that is needed to make them.

  • I have 2 pair of old wooden skiis, one has steel edges, the other has woodenb edges. I can't belive you took them out, I would worry about breaking them. Back in the 50's & 60's, I broke a bunch of wooden skis. Then I delaminated several fibreglas skis, and bent a bunch of metal boards. A lot of snow there. I don't care much for deep powder myself but it looks nice.
