Here is some footage of pouring the foundation of our clinic in Belize!
On Saturday (May 1st), we poured the 15″ thick footings for the clinic. We hired 12 local men for the day, many of whom biked 20 miles to the jobsite. Work began at 5am and we shut the mixer down at 4:30pm. After hosing ourselves and our equipment off, it was a 12 hour workday. The guys worked impressively hard, especially considering the 99 degree temperature. They fully deserved their time-and-a-half paycheck.
Statistics on the day: * 30 cubic yards poured * 540 wheelbarrow loads * 121,500 lbs of concrete moved * 180.5 bags of portland cement * 28 giant popsicles * Footing dimensions: 24″x15″x330′
I must add, Jim and I estimated the portland cement to within a half a bag! (We had projected 180.)
We will begin the concrete stemwalls next week, followed by another 30 cubic yard pour for the slab.
