Those large indentations on the bluffs above the houses were caused by the ten 14-inch and twelve 12-inch guns of the USS Texas and Arkansas BB's respectively. Two 'old ladies' like the HMS Warspite BB that supported the landings. What you are calling Pointe du Hoc is actually Pointe et Raz de la Percee, where WN74 was located & also raked western Omaha with fire from its 2 75mm or 76.2mm guns. Pointe du Hoc is not visible from Omaha. Thanx for the great video.

Of course the Vierville D-1 Draw has been cleaned up since the war!! The bunker above D-1, was part of WN72 or WN73, and it contained a French 1897 75mm that may have been converted by the Germans into a PaK 97/38 firing PaK 40 rounds, & because of its nearly inaccessible location & sweeping field of fire it caused more damage than either of the 88mm at Omaha.

Not sure if you are talking about D-1 exit. Sounds more like the Colleville draw (E-3) which is just below the Normandy American Cemetery. As far as I know, most of the D-1 German works from 1944 are not in place anymore. Removed post-1944. I will hoepfully put a new video from E-3 on here soon.

Yes, Point du Hoc is open to the public every day. Its also been left pretty much as it was in June 1944 with massive bomb craters all over the site. Well worth a visit.
