  • Hi Frank. I just wondered, do you have experience as an Ofsted inspector? I teach Btec and A-level in a sixth form college and often start by writing the lesson aims and objectives on the board, but also get the students to write them down. I find this helps students when it comes to doing coursework or exam revision but also settles/quietens them down at the beginning if they are particularly lively!

  • I don't have experience with OFSTED inspector but have discussed sharing goals with an HMI.She told me that they want to see students understanding what the objectives are. They don't HAVE to write them down.

Doing so is a great settler BUT I wonder whether an OFSTED inspector may prefer to see a more intellectually engaging starter?

Perhaps the two could be combined by sharing what the obectives are and then asking the pupils to think about what they would need to do/know to acheive them.

  • Thanks alot for this blog. Really useful and practical. I am a college lecturer.

  • Thanks for the comment. It is lovely to receive some feedback. One day I must get around to recording number two!

  • This is quite an original idea and it's good. But I don't really know if many teaching staff from schools really search for this find of thing on youtube? I don't know about that, but I was linked here from 4chan.org where I assume one of your students was trying to rip on, in return users of the site just laughed at him. Nice video though.

  • Thanks for the comment. Your're right, I don't expect to get many teachers watching via youtube. I palced the video on my blog and just added it here for good measure.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean about 'rip on 4chan', but if its kids gettig up to mischief, that sounds ab out right!

Thanks again for taking to to comment.
