Thanks. I listend to a lot of "experts" play this on piano-forte. The harpsichord IS the correct instrument. It has the right sound for the pieces. Thanks for posting.

Aren't you being a harpsichord elitist with your ending statement though? lol

Personally I like listening to classical on various instruments. I have seen some brilliant interpretations on various instruments of various compositions and although my main love is the piano, I equally enjoy other instruments when they are played well.

its hard to describe the sound of the harpsichord imo, it seems to have this percussive element. I guess i'll settle with FANTASTIC!

I agree with you, but I hate when the works for harpsichord are played in piano, harpsichord sound is wonderful, powerful and sweet. Besides "the well-tempered piano" does not sound good (lol)

As I understand it, these were meant to be 2 hand exercises for his students. Not actually meant for public performance, but as study etudes. If this is true it makes it that much more amazing.

Actually I think if it was appropriate Bach would have had plenty of time to name his pieces. I guess he wanted to let the music do the talking instead of telling the listener what his music was 'trying' to express.

I've never understood this way of thinking. I mean, if you didn't know what key the pieces were in and you heard them for the first time, surely there wouldn't be such thing as a 'correct pitch'..?

I'm happy that Bach is performed in piano, but I hate piano elitists that seem to think piano is a superior medium for expressing Bach's keyboard works. This performance in particular displays how gentle the harpsichord can be, and I believe this music can express core human emotions more truly than a pianoforte.

each have their own styles. harsichord is an instrument that never changed anything. I think Bach would be delighted to play in a piano nowadays :)

Oh how I would have loved to have Bach written some music for the clarinet :(
