http://budbrownonline.com Many people are confused when looking up words in a Vietnamese Dictionary. The words are not in the same order as English. This video is part 3 of a 6 part lesson explaining how the words are arranged. It's not so simple, but linguist Bud Brown tries to explain the logic behind the dictionary entries.

  • North = zee

    South = Yee

  • ha...I get the same thing...

    all of my dvd and cd materials have me saying D as a "z" sound. The only Vietnamese that I know ALWAYS correct me and tell me it is a "y" sound.

  • Very informative! I have a newer dictionary from Tuttle and in it "CH" comes before "CO", but so far it seems everything is in a similar order to your dictionary. It seems a lot of my study material is from the Hanoi area so when I have practiced saying words with "D" (without the line) with the "z" sound, my fiancee will tell me I'm wrong (she is from the south). now it makes sense.
