First of all, America is not a pure Capitalist nation. We practice hybrid Capitalism, which goes through periods of free and restricted markets. The system works as long as our politicians work. The system was flawed because it was vulnerable to collapse if there was political turmoil in Washington (hint: the past decade, The Vietnam era recession). Just think about it this way people: America is like a pendulum, it swings right and left but always trying to be in the middle.
Holy crap ?! These comments are pathetic. No Free market is Bullshit.Big Business sucks the life out of underprivliged countries.. I dont even care to argue that. can you really be so numb not to relize two years after these protests, the world trade center was attacked by the taliban and have been undergoing assemetrical warfare for like 8 years with people who dont agree with our bigbank corprate mess..but yeah i love America and im thrilled im not on the other side i also love rodriguez!!
You mustn't be very observant that's all I can say. I see no point in wasting my time with people who is going to spew the typical right-wing nonsense of 'I don't see any problems', who'd rather reference the USSR as a counter-argument as if all Socialists idolize or even remotely like Stalin, whose more concerned with their own little bits of green paper and who thinks anyone who is of the Left is somewhat mentally ill. As far as 'my' system goes, I've outlined it in previous comments
Just to clarify, I said free markets work just fine. I also see no problem with capitalism.
Furthermore, I don't agree with anything you say. In fact, I think anyone who spouts marxist propaganda is a little crazy. You haven't shown me anything real to base a judgement on. No evidence, no examples of how your system works better.
I have absolutely no problem with the system I'm living in. It suits me quite well.
any changes that do benefit us are always small & significant, only done so when pushed by the people & only done when the rich & powerful have consolidated their power for the 'new age/time' on such issues, as they say. Don't be deluded, democracy in capitalism doesn't exist - it's an illusion. Fact is, once you try & democraticise the work place & the economy the capitalists always threaten to leave - thereby demonstrating the democratic process is dictated by the interests of the rich
Well we can debate the pin point of capitalism but capitalism has, in the modern sense, only existed for around 200 years. And I must refute that it works just fine. It may work just fine for the rich and powerful but for the rest of us, the overwhelming majority, it dictates every essence of our lives, crushes our rights and destroys and discredits any challenge to it from birth. I want a system of participatory democratic consensus, genuine freedom and equality - capitalism offers none of that

Free markets work, but do they maximize equity?

From my observations, democracy is working just fine in the U.S. capitalist system. So I don't know what you're going on about.
