Selena's P.O.V
I woke up in the closet.
I guess I fell asleep in there last night.
I tried hard not to wake my dad when I was getting ready and raced out the door at exactly 7:00 to make for first period.
"Hey crazy" Nick said smiling at me when I get to school
"Where were you after school yesterday" I asked.
I seriously hadn't seen him all day yesterday
"Well I got in trouble in lunch detention so they gave me after school detention" he said smirking
"Wow Nicholas Jerry, I hope Demi told your parents" I teased him
"She did" he muttered
"Where is she anyway" I said seriously needing to talk to a girl
"I don't know" he said opening my locker to probably get a twinkie out.
"Hey" Joe said coming up to me
Why did my cheeks feel like they were burning when I saw him?!?!?
"Uh-um How you are, Hi" I stuttered.
I am so stupid around him
He laughed at me. I don't blame him
"Sel, you wanna skip today?" Nick asked saving me from embarassing myself again
"Sure. Joe you wanna come?" I asked hopeful
"Won't we get caught?" He asked seeming a little worried
"Aw hes scared were gonna get caught thats so cute" I said teasing him
"Fine" he blushed "I'll go"

Later That Day...

No P.O.V

"Hey Joe, where do you live anyway" Selena asked
"Stalker much?" he asked laughing
"Pshhh no!" She said acting like she didn't care
Even though she really cared... A lot!
"I live at 874 22nd street" Joe said sounding a little disapointed
"Really? I live at 875" Nick said cutting in
"Wait doesn't Mrs. Block live at that adress?" Selena asked confused.
She knew Mrs. Block hadn't moved
"Oh well she's my aunt..." Joe said looking down
"Why don't you live with your parents?" Nick asked
Selena elbowed him in the stomach "God Nick, don't be so nosey!"
"Its okay really... Its because back in New York were I lived before, my dad died about a year ago. After that my mom got really depressed. She basically went insane one day and killed my little brother Frankie, then tried to kill me and my other brother Kevin. Then she tried to kill herself but when the cops showed up they took her to a mental facility. So I came to live here with my aunt. I don't know where Kevin is" Joe confessed.
He remembered everything so vividly.
From the knife his mom use
To the cops faces that showed up.
Nobody said anything for awhile...
"Joe" Selena said reaching out and touching his arm
"Its okay really. I don't need sympathy. I've had enough of it" he said looking down
"So has Selena" Nick said nudging her
"Huh?" Joe asked looking up into Selena's eyes
"Oh uh... Well when I was 4 my mom decided I wasn't good enough for her. So she just left one day and then my dad started drinking and now he has been beating me ever since..." Selena stared back at him blankly
"Wow I'm sorry..." Joe said, his voice flat
Him and Selena had much more in common than he thought.
"Your aunts really great" Selena said
She thought back to the time when Mrs. Block helped her

FLASHBACK
Selena sat out on the curb after her dad beat her waiting for Nick to get home.
Mrs. Block/ Joe's aunt looked out the window and saw her freezing in the rain.
She came out and put a blanket over Selena's shoulders
"Whats happened" She gasped after she brought Selena inside and saw the bruises
Selena told her the whole story.
Start to finish.
"I have to call the police" Mrs. Block said worriedly
"No you can't. Please don't" Selena said tears in her eyes
Ever since then Mrs. Block had been a huge support system for Selena.

FLASHBACK ENDS
