The self-carving pumpkin is an exciting science Halloween demonstration, but it's too dangerous for most of us to want to try! Fortunately, there is a safe alternative that allows you to carve your jack-o-lantern using science without the risk of fire or injury. This version uses a puff of carbon dioxide gas generated by popping a zipper-style plastic bag containing either a small amount of dry ice and water or else a little baking soda and vinegar. You don't need a specific amount of chemicals. If you accidentally use too much all that happens is your bag will pop too quickly. Easy, safe and still fun!

@LoVeSydneyyy No, that is not true. It can give you frostbite though.

where can i get dry ice or how to make it ???

@iguanito64 Depending where you live, some grocery stores may carry it. Otherwise, it is sold by companies that offer specialty gases. Stores that ship perishable frozen items sometimes will sell it. It's possible to make it from compressed air, but it requires a device. Most people buy it rather than attempt to make it.
