I walk at dusk
Through the silent halls of the house of sleep.
The wish to forget stands petulant
In every doorway
And there are more ways
To drown yourself
Then in the sea.
Showers fall, daily calls
To work and prayer
I go nowhere
But go there awake and hopeful.
The mantle of resisting
Being, feeling, acting
Is picked up by those
Whose heads turn like lightning
To block the sight of the sun.
So run, nimbly and gracefully.
Toward your fate.
See your body in the falling leaves
That blow beautifully
In arcane geometries
Before they marry
The earth.
