Released in 1995 on TVT records.

Spookey Ruben is a weirdo from the land of Canadians. He plays quirky, inventive pop/rock. Only weird people like his music.

The Good : This album is very creative, charming and oddly accessible. It'll take you back to a time of child like innocence and wonder. The songs on here are as varied as they are unique. An array of instruments are used. There's also plenty of sound effects to treat your ears to. All the songs are played extremely well, but none of them takes themselves seriously. Very playful. Nothing really sounds weird for weirdness sake either, like Zappa or Ween does. Not boring.

The Bad : When all the songs are different and weird, there are bound to be songs that rub you the wrong way. One song has yodeling. If you like serious rock, or straight ahead music, or take yourself seriously, this may not be for you. Perhaps the fact it was recorded in the mid 90's may give it a slightly dated sound.

In conclusion, this album has a wonderful energy. Doesn't sound like anything else. The music is very unique and creative. Charming and inoffensive.

If you're a weirdo and like weird music and/or if you like obscure 90's, you should check this out.

  • Ugggghh ! The SHINS ??

Trust me, Spookey Ruben is not the Shins. Spookey is some messed up, weirdo music.

  • Oh yeah! Always loved this album. It gets playtime in my house for sure

  • Nice review! Definately one of the best albums to come out of the 90's!

  • @YoureWrongImRight

You should maybe release a record and let Spookey critique it for you dude.

  • Is ear-tickling a technical term?

Are you aware that Spookey has been in the music business for 15 years, owns a label and still puts out great music?

Check out Mechanical Royalty, released on Hi-Hat Recordings and distributed in Canada on Sonic Unyon. Yep...

  • Modes of Transportation is one of those albums that you look back over the last 20 years and think "this work stands out from the rest". It is a very special album. You need to listen to it fresh, spare yourself the idea of what a song should sound like and just get lost in it. This is what people did when Pet Sounds came out, when Dark Side of the Moon came out. Just listen to the songs and realize how brilliant this album is and will be 20 years from now.

  • Great vid! lol :D guy looks funny on the cover. hehehe! 5* man!

  • ok, i'll take your word for it. i have no rapidshare right now so unfortunately i can't download. the shins suck. i saw them live because my friend was really into them and it was without a doubt the most boring show i've ever been to. i couldn't believe what i was watching. like.. so boring. i wanted to go to sleep.

  • the word is spreading!!!
