Installation Views by B. Lynch © 2008 "Tragical Comical...." Art Shaken & Stirred via the Literary Tradition, explores the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Evoking the story's journey to the underworld, the viewers make their own journey to the center of a labyrinth built in the gallery. Through video, objects, and a variety of written materials, the exhibit highlights variations of stories that directly reference this mythic theme.
Gallery Director, Kathleen Hancock, writes: "A story like this, though framed within the context of Greek mythology, has played out in numerous ways across the centuries. Contemporary renderings include the novel Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows or the recent film, Pan's Labyrinth, by Guillermo Del Toro. The challenge, the test of worthiness, the willingness to risk one's own life for that of another, is timeless." The exhibit was produced, spring 2008, by the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Gallery at Bristol Community College in Fall River MA. The artist B. Lynch created the sets, costumes, masks and music.
