This is what the new Letus Extreme looks like right out of the box. I opened it up and took some test footage with the Panasonic HVX200 & Nikon 85mm lens.

  • why if you want a filmic?look do you not just buy a s16mm cinema camera and learn how to really be a cinematographer?all these digital cameras do is make you a push button artist. The real learning experiance is knowing how to shoot manually wioth a film camera. But i guess thats what the new tech does is make you a button pusher, and let the camera make your vdeo for you,,,not very sporting indeed...,

  • @bathwaterfilms In this economy, it's much more affordable to shoot digital. I tried to buy a 16mm on eBay, but the seller backed out. I'm glad he did, because processing all that footage would have depleted my bank account. Besides, pushing buttons doesn't equate to a good looking film. There is sooooooo much more in it than pressing a record button. If it were that easy, everyone with a high def camcorder would be in the cinematographers guild! :)

  • I just ordered the Letus35 with the Nikon Locking Mount for my DVX100A... which Nikon Lens would you suggest I get for it? Looking to stay under the 400$ mark if I can, and I'm going for the best DOF I can get for that price... Would really love your input... Sorry if I'm bugging you!

  • @TheLetteredWayfarer You actually want an array of lenses to start out with (24mm 50mm and 80mm would be my starting suggestion) Get all prime lenses and try to get all 1.8 lenses. with the Letus, you cannot shoot above a 5.6 aperture because you will start to see the ground glass. -- I usually suggest that beginners start with the 50mm prime lens. Good luck!

  • um question...

y pay that much for a 35mm adapter and the rods and all when u can just go get a freakin 7d for less money......?

  • @sortaAWSOMEish

While your comment is mathematically true, it is also dated. The 7D didn't exist when the Letus, Redrock, Brevis adaptors were first released. But I do agree with you -- in 2010, it is financially wise to get the 7D instead of the Letus. However, the Letus will give you a softer (some might say better) and more filmic look out of the camera

  • @bathwaterfilms Hahaha. Your "push button" theory could also be applied to say Editors who use the assistance of Final Cut Pro or Avid are not as good as those who do it the old fashion way on Analog/ Linear Deck to Deck Systems or even better yet splicing actual film! Technology advances art and does not replace it. There will always be great cinematographers who rise above the rest regardless of what format they are shooting on.

  • Awesome !!!

  • @dennisonearth a Zoom H4N and a clapperboard are your friends for DSLR audio... just think back to the film days. also, very rarely do I have to film more than 12 minutes at a time on a DSLR shoot (no one take on a narrative, hosted TV program, commercial, or music vid is more than that), the only time I have to do that is with documentary interviews and even then, usually my subjects/producers are cool with me stopping and restarting/re-slating every 12 mins.

  • @denekes truth, film is expensive and fragile even though it looks amazing, you can get a look close to film with digital these days. and digital is not all pushing buttons, you still have to have good composition, good lighting, good control of focus (especially with a 35mm adapter), and above all the ability to tell a story effectively.

  • @bathwaterfilms i bet you do not use a shovel to dig a driveway, a bob cat does all the work for you, this also takes the true feel out of digging and saves alot of time, not very sporting id say... Im sure you also hunt for your food with your hands and wear skins instead of going to the supermarket? Digital cameras are easy and fantastic, like the records of the past (although im sure you still have an 8 track in your car) CD and DVD have replaced them. Just technology moving along old timer.

  • @bathwaterfilms digital only mean that the video is stored on electronic media, rather than film.

  • @bathwaterfilms You aren't bright at all. Uhm Last time i checked RED cameras are digital and oh wait a sec, the social network, the hobbit, and pirates of the caribbean were shot digital by the red cameras. Its not about film cameras, nor is it about what camera it is, the art comes in on how you use the camera.

    ;)

  • haha, the testing was pretty funny!
