A very nice project, effective too,... Well done.

@kyamelon Search the internet for the drawings Clone KMG and you will find them. Look in knife grinding forums. This will cost $200 - $800 to build depending on what materials you have now.

hi!... how can I build this machine myself? , I mean , do you have the plans to build it? can you share them , or sell them to me? , also , how much do you think I will spend making this belt grinder?
-
@Marc329 That's a good one!! Thanks. Good luck with yours.

I guess the music is appropriate. A lot of grinding goes on at the Disco. ;oP
Nice Design. I still need to build one. Maybe this winter.

@labrat7357 Thanks labrat I will be adding more to this grinder. The hammertone is a good Idea.

That is an impressive bit of kit., and in only 40 hours. Are you going to do the other slide in heads as well?
While it is still new and clean buy some tins of metal primer and hammertone paint it will come up a treat. You have a lot to be proud of with this project.

@nlightened2 That is the joy of TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) electric motors, they will run for years in a dirty gritty enviroment with no problems
-
@M1ST3RHYDE I use Norton abrasive belts they cost $40 - $50 for a box of 10.
I am very happy with them, they last a long time.

Im used to cheaper belts that break dwn in no time; What kinda belts do you use? Really awesome sander by the way, Great job.
I built a 2x72 with the motor underneath like yours with a hinged mounting board for belt tension. I think the metal grindings got into the motor today. Let's just say I have more time to watch videos like yours.

We just need video of your set up.
Thanks

Awsome unit Chris where do you source the idler and main wheels for this unit. Please advise!

Thank You! I machined the wheels myself from thick wall pipe and welded a center plate with hub into the middle. The drive and tension wheels are 2.25" wide, 4" in diameter and are machined at 3 degrees.
I used metric bearings that are abut 1.125" OD. with .500 ID.

Is it just me or is the whole machine rocking back and forth like it needs to have one of it's legs shimmed?

Yes in some shots it is.
You can see in 0:50 that it is shimmed.
The problem is now rectified.
