Hollywood Babylon is such a vicious book, I'm ashamed I ever read it! It's full of lies, libels & distortions. Arbuckle was innocent, & a Court cleared him. Rappe was a pretty girl who played bit parts & had some mania for tearing off her clothes in public. She had 5 abortions & an illegitimate child by age 17, & was suffering from advanced Gonorrhea when she died. Her massive internal infection caused her death- no Antibiotics back then. Roscoe Arbuckle was a good man & deserves justice.

I'm an Arbuckle fan, but I do feel badly for Virginia. It wasn't her fault that Roscoe got in trouble. All she did was die in the wrong place and time and have lousy friends who tried to use her death to make money. Roscoe did nothing wrong. He just tried to help the girl as best he could. And I'm more likely to believe someone you can put on the stand and his story never changes, as opposed to his accuser, whom they couldn't put on the stand because her story never stayed the same.

A have a friend who is a huge silent film buff yet he jokingly said that Roscoe's weight on top of her is what killed her. However the sex was most likely consensual. I don't doubt however that Roscoe was probably being reckless with someone so frail.He was a big guy afterall

Rappe was already suffering from numerous STD's and a botch abortion and probably should have been home instead of partying. Roscoe probably laid on her wrong and ruptured her bladder, causing infection to kick in fast

@anjinsan9000 There is speculation over why she was kicked off the lot. STDs have been suggested, but as I said, they didn't "fumigate" for crabs, or and other STDs back then, because people were not stupid. Fumigating was common for getting rid of lice (not the pubic variety, but the kind little kids get from sharing a hairbrush). There doesn't appear to be much in the way of reliable, primary historical documentation for Virginia Rappe's life. Most of the claims about her life are pure fiction

For the record, it is far more likely that the studio was fumigated because she had LICE. People were not so stupid back then that they thought you could kill STDs that way.
