On 5/8 at 2100 hrs TFR units responded to a car crash on I-275 northbound at the Bougainvillea Avenue overpass just before the Fowler Avenue exit.
On scene rescuers found 3 vehicles had been involved in a wreck, a white Pontiac Sunfire with 3 occupants sat wrecked in the middle of the interstate; a black Lexus IS 300 with one occupant had its driver side door smashed into a sign support post; but most of the immediate attention was for the maroon GMC Envoy with 9 occupants that went over the guardrail, rolled down the embankment and had ejected at least 2 of the occupants.
TFR treated and transported 12 persons from the scene, 1 serious injury to Tampa General, 2 serious injuries to St Joseph's Hospital, 3 non-life threatening injuries to St Joseph's, and 6 non-life threatening to University Community Hospital. All three serious injuries came from the Envoy.
Witnesses report the Envoy was northbound on I-275; it hit the center retaining wall and came back into traffic hitting the two cars before going over the guardrail and down the embankment. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
TFR responded to this car wreck with 3 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, 4 rescue cars, 3 ambulances and a couple of chief officers. An estimated 32 responders were on scene from fire stations in Belmont Heights, North Tampa, Sulphur Springs, Downtown, Hilldale, Ybor City and Westshore.
