Mark Sainsbury presents Close Up live from the Weta Cave in Wellington as the big question over whether The Hobbit will stay in New Zealand goes unanswered.

It's a big question, with hundreds of millions of dollars riding on it.

Sainsbury spoke with Sir Peter Jackson and co-producer Philippa Boyens about the debacle, and he also spoke to CTU president Helen Kelly.

Sainsbury also spoke to Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee.

I love Peter Jackson. Even when he is stressed out he still comes off like a good guy

Some people think that, but other people (like myself) think that they can put in a load of detail into the films that they weren't funded to do in The Lord Of The Rings.

LOTR and the Hobbit is like comparing day and night,LOTR is probably the best movie I have ever seen,,,, I waited so long for the Hobbit, counting the days, and I was soooo desappointed...in LOTR the Orks where real people,,, in the Hobbit, everything is animated,, looks so fake that is painful to watch,,,,,added spiders, bad singing, plates throwing dorfs,,,ouch.

Oh ya I forgot about that. It sucks because Tolkien's family got no money for the movies since he sold the filming rights to pay a huge tax bill.

no, they don't have the rights for either one of those books. the only books they can use for material are The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings with it's appendices.

You obviously didn't read Unfinished Tales. (Saying that Tolkien doesn't go into detail is the most false thing anyone can say)

They're also going to use somethings from some other books like The Silmarrillion and Unfinished Tales

Now that I read unfinished tales I can reply better. In the book there was a chapter that pretty much had Gandalf talking to Frodo and Gimli and the other hobbits about what happened during the hobbit. So they would probably have that fill up some space.
