NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Dymo 4264) Out of Los Angles, this 1964 release is one of two that Jimmy Borges would issue on the tiny Dymo label. 'The Earth Stood Still' had been recorded in 1963 by Eileen Barton on 20th Century-Fox but it's Jimmy's version that is the winner. The session was held at United Recording Studio in Hollywood with L.A.'s top session players known as 'The Wrecking Crew'. Shelly Feinberg was the producer and owner of Dymo Records. The legendary, Perry Botkin, Jr. was the arranger and the background vocals were handled by an ensemble of male and female session vocalists that included The Blossoms. (One of those singers, Jackie Ward, who had a 1963 hit of her own on Dot Records entitled 'Wonderful Summer' and issued under the name of Robin Ward, can be heard singing "la-la-la-la-la" at the chorus of 'The Earth Stood Still'.) A big, brassy and percussive record that should have been a hit. Jimmy Borges is still quite active in the music biz. He currently lives in Hawaii and sings jazz and music from the American songbook. His mellow and smooth voice suits that style of music to a 'T'. He's had quite an exciting career not only with music but also with acting and has come a long way since this 1964 release. Great, great post, Anthony. Jimmy is indeed alive and well in Hawaii, still knocking them dead on stage. Jimmy acted in a bunch of the old "Hawaii 5-0" episodes and a few of the "Magnum P.I." episodes as well. A great talent, and a great guy to boot. Thanks much for this one!
