A friend let me drive his 2L vitara on Fraser Island's 75mile beach. You can see how hard the sand is, as we were able to achieve the old 100km/h speed limit on the northern remote area of the island. This was filmed (just coming back from Indian Head), near Dundubara. 75 Mile beach is classified as a National Highway in Australia. 4WD's are only permitted on Fraser Island.

***NOTE: This was taken before the new strict 80km/h speed limit was applied, not just recommended. Now it is illegal to exceed 80km/h on 75mile beach, Fraser Island. The speed limit was lowered after the double fatality of 2 backpackers on April 18, 2009. Their overloaded top heavy 4WD rolled whilst doing 100km/h, after trying to dodge a wave.***

  • Ps: This was in a Suzuki Vitara, 2L, V6, 4 door.

  • Please Note the Recommended Speed Limit on Fraser Island's Ocean Beach (75 mile beach) is 80km/h.
