On Sunday I saw her looking very weak, leaning against the little mirror I had in the aviary so I got her and let her lay an egg on my bed. I guess those "nest boxes" didn't work (but they sure have fun tearing it up). She isn't incubating the egg, she sees as a strange object and flies away when I show her, it looks infertile anyways. Shortly after she laid the egg I made another box, but out of strong cardboard this time and it's much darker inside; she was inside it today when I got home from school.... sssooooo that might work.

  • my finches had eggs and wont sit on them what should i do?

  • @oscarissweet1029 Is there any males with her? If not, let it be, they're not fertile. But if there are males they most likely are. Not sure what do to, babies don't developed into the egg unless they're warm.

  • is there any way for your bird to not lay eggs? *interested in getting a bird*

  • @loganW915 Not that I know of, females will still lay even without a male present.

  • @lulzBrownie but wil they hatc into birds? and how often would the bird do this?

  • @loganW915 No, she lays eggs while she's perching and they fall straight to the floor, and it happens every other day or so...

  • @loganW915 If there is no male, there is no fertilization, so no the eggs will not hatch. As for how often, I think it depends on their environment, if there are areas suitable for brooding she may lay eggs, usually up to six, one every other day. So keep the cage free of objects that may seem like a nesting place. Mine may be laying because I have cardboard objects in there for them to gnaw on. Her gnawing on them may be promoting her to lay...
