  • Hi there, can you control points on the select? Also can you use the select/elite to control under board points or just the surface mounted? Are surface mounted frowned upon because they dont look nice? Thanks mate

  • Hi, i take it you've not read the hand book for your Select?? That & the Hornby website answers your 1st question. For the 2nd question, no difference to either, I have both surface & under board mounted points on my layout. For the last question, it's personal pref as to which you like. End of the day it's your railway, so go for what suits & works best for you.

  • personly prefer the dc operation as it dosnt take control away from the select trains controler had a dcc unit but sold it later on ebay after many crashes have 3 points already fitted but 4 to go

  • I prefer it controlled via DCC, as it saves miles of extra wiring, can adjust dwell time on the built in CDU for any points that stick, Pre-set up routes for multiple point changes in one go etc. Easy to use on the Elite, & with the Railmaster now coming on stream, a whole heap more features have just opened up like automated train movements with point changes etc. But with the Elite, you can also operate points via the old DC method with the point levers. So best of both methods & options.

  • hi im thinking abut making my dc hornby dcc but dont whant to start with an elite dcc control system (i whant to use the select its cheaper)and was wondering if you could do some vids explaning how you do all the stuf in your dcc seris on the select.thank you.

  • @hazzer19981 I don't have the select, so won't be doing video's on it. However if you want to provide me with a select controller, then we'll look into doing a series of video's on it.

  • Thank you.

  • @jamestrain100 Once you've given the points decoder an address, get the DCC controller to read back it's address CV. If it can't read it ( that's if the DCC controller you use can read CV addresses), try reprograming. If it fails to be programed, then decoder could be faulty. For the point motor, try it on the conventional DC controller 1st to make sure it's working. Cheers.

  • How can you test the point decoder and/or point motors (PL11).

Power supply to the decoder is OK,both items are new.

I have tried more than one motor.Cheers

  • @chefblanc Sounds like you've got it all solved now :-)

  • ok , ill have to ask the professor down the model shop for that cos nothing in the instructions, amazingly having left things overnight after lubricating the point mecho they seem to ok now-Brill, but will still investigate more power!
