For me, it's still incredible what Lucas has been able to create 30 years ago! I've read somewhere that he and Dykstra, his special effects master at that time, analyzed about 40 documentaries from WWII about air battles to create this about 10 mins sequence. Lucas said he knows well there is no sound in the outer space, but such kind of movie cannot have fun with no sound, so he created it's own universe here. Also, he tried to "tape" everything like being there, in the fighting squad. Also, sound of imperial fighters ships with clear influence from famous german's Stuka. Great, wonderful piece of work!

  • Yeah, this isn't what Lucas created 30 years ago, it's been heavily edited.

I saw it on cinema 30 ago, five times, "wide screen, two series", it was thrilling :D Believe me, nothing has changed, perhaps only audio and image quality were enhanced.

  • @Jelboo I'm fairly sure it was an all-in play by the Rebellion. The Empire had built the Death Star and were preparing to eliminate the Rebels once and for all. With the plans that Leia retrieved they were able to find a weakness, but had to put all of their starfighters based around the Yavin area that were in combat-ready condition against the Death Star.

  • Why would they attack such a huge ship with only like, 6 starfighters? O.o

  • @trotica Uhm, yeah he changed ist after the 3rd part in the trilogy was finished because he couldnt affort it when he first made ep. 4 because no one belived in the film. Fox even wanted to stop the money flow for it... So he came back after ep. 6 and sis it again digitally...

It's even in the making of, just listen....

  • I watched this for 1:50 when the tash guy says "I can't see him". My favorite part in all of Star Wars.
