Hotel California

This is a modern dance video inspired by the lyrics to Hotel California. Specifically I was inspired by the ideas: You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. As well as, Some dance to remember, some dance to forget.

As a kid my family didn't own a lot of music but we did have the Eagles greatest hits and we listened to those songs a lot, mostly on long car trips. The melody and lyrics of Hotel California loomed large in my young imagination. I was both scared and seduced by it.

This video uses the original music of Ron Rennells. It is not meant to be a music video for Hotel California, but rather a dance about entrapment.

This could be Heaven or this could be Hell. In your work, the two frequently merge, obscuring any boundaries between them. I always find profound love, here....but there's always something terrifying, living in the shadows, reminding me of monsters, attracted by the scent of contentment...ready to pounce, unclouded by conscience or delusions of morality.

The music and movement in this vid are superbly beautiful. And, it scares the shit outta me.
