  • Yes! Its a wonderful documentary. Unfortunately, its rather pricey. Its from a discontinued series on PBS called, "I'll Make Me A World." There are about 4 one hour videos (maybe six?).I've been able to get them from libraries. I have a myself couple too - got on Amazon. They detail the entry of African Americans into film, dance (ballet/modern), literature/poetry, art (sculpture/painting), music (jazz/rap). Its an amazing series, but gets very long for children if you try to show it all.

  • It is part of an AMAZING documentary, with 5 or 6 videos called I'll Make Me A World. The portion you watched was an excerpt from the video "Dreamkeepers" (I can't remember if it was video 2 or 3). The series works in chronological order to chronicle Blacks intrance into all of the humanities from the 1920s to the 1980s. It was produced by PBS I believe. Le me know if you need more help finding it, I got a couple of the videos on Amazon.

  • Seek proper training, work hard and continue to pursue your dreams no matter how many doors close because even if your not allowed to see the fruits of your labor, the future generations will.

  • This society has brainwashed many little girls into believing because of our body structure and the size of our curves that we're not capable of the softness, grace and beauty of classical ballet, as you can clearly see from the footage this is not the case.

  • this is a beautiful video, even though it shows how we have always had Uncle Toms who are jealous. would love to see more of these videos and show them to kids.

  • Hey, wait a minute, wasn't that last speaker before the video ended James Baldwin??? One of my favorite authors!

  • Disgusting...

  • This is so sad...
