Calvert County, MD Red Light Runners

After approximately 15 minutes of taking video at the intersection of Route 4 and Plum Point Rd (around 3:15 PM 2/1/11) twenty two persons were observed making right turns at the red light for north bound Route 4 onto Plum Point Rd. Seventeen persons disregarding the red light in violation of Maryland Code, two drivers hustled through the yellow, and three actually stopped.

A black and white Calvert County Sheriff patrol vehicle was one of the red light runners. You can see the red lights over the intersection through the tree line.

The entrance and exit for the Calvert Bowl is immediately on the right after the right turn. There is the potential for a serious collision when drivers fail to stop as the law requires.

This video is a snapshot of that time period. The video shows the police vehicle running the red light. STOP the MUD believes that Maryland needs EXAMPLE SETTERS on our roads and not scofflaws. During our brief time at this intersection we saw three good examples. We remind the driver of the Sheriff's patrol car that you are supposed to "do it right in a black and white."

Yes, but ONLY after coming to a COMPLETE stop. Many of the drivers seen here barely even slow to a crawl. Failing to stop at red lights or stop signs is a major primary collision factor.

i actually was almost killed in this intersection in 1997. Hit behind the driver's door at 70mph by red light runner.
