The double entendre names myth is from a Comic who did a send up of the cartoon... look on Internet and you will see that the man who devised Captain Pugwash actually won a law suit against 2 Newspapers who tried to perpetuate the rude character names... Master Mates name might be easy to mis-hear I am sure was created in all innocence, and the cabin boy was always called Tom. The first episodes were actually broadcast live using cardboard cut outs, brilliant, pioneering and charming.
