Coffs Harbour Ramp Surge

All you need is a long strong rope. There is NO NEED to put the car in the water. Float the boat onto the trailer and make it captive with the bow eye. You then tow the trailer to level ground using the rope. Some ramps are awkward and have a bend at the top In such cases some kind of winch helps. One sailor made his own winch using a starter motor and a "surplus" epicyclic gearbox. The method was to rev the engine, hold the footbrake and power the winch. 1 ton car pulls 2 ton yacht!

thats nothing man, go a few hours north just off the coast of grafton we launch in a small bay, there is no ramp its just sand, and the waves come crashing in, somtimes its so much that 1 minute your boat is in the water, next its high and dry as the swell recedes, all worth it for the good fishing though

me and my dad have been in a few bad situations there. the wind has cought the canopy and in 2 secs were on the rocks. another one was like this vid but we were launching it. the surge came up then dad pushed the boat off than the surge went out. there was a nice surprise when we took the boat out again.
why didnt the make the ramp somewhere else so as soon as u get the boat off u can just put it on the sand. why do we need rocks to make another worry?
WHYYYYYY, the bow eye is not made for that kind of stress. you are suppose to float the boat on the trailer not drag it. back up, back up, geeeezzzz. thje scary thing is you dont even understand how wrong this is.

Don't worry, Coffs ramp has claimed it's fair share of cars too. Frequently there is rocks on the ramp people have used to chock tyres etc. I have personally seen a landcruiser sliding backwards with locked brakes!

BTW I am not in this video, this was a random load that I came across driving around!
I have a 4wd and last time I loaded as I approached the trailer the water dropped away to behind the tyres, then came up and I drove on. Next thing a surge picked the boat up and washed it sideways off the trailer and dropped the boat onto the mud guard punching a hole in the fibreglass hull. Still waiting on insurance to get it fixed!
Beware Coffs Harbour ramp!!!
