Singer and actress Eartha Kitt has died
The American singer and actress, Eartha Kitt, has died from cancer at the age of 81.
She spent a lifetime in theatre, film and in television, where she attracted a devoted following as Catwoman, a role in which she perfected her trademark feline purr.
Some of her best known songs were Old Fashioned Girl, C'est Si Bon and Santa Baby.
A magnetic performer, Eartha Kitt came from humble origins in the cotton fields of South Carolina. She also had a political voice, speaking out against the Vietnam war in the 1960s.
That briefly damaged her career in the United States, but she made a comeback and went on performing almost to the end of her life.
She considered herself with out a race. She was illegitimate and given away by her mother who according to Eartha had to do it because she concieved at a very young age.
I Want To Be Evil (Live Kaskad 1962)
Class: you either got it, or you ain't.
