The score to this film is exceptional, the story dramatic, set against a wonderful historical background with excellent performances......epic.

Very good indeed. One must read Richard McKenna's book to get exactly what this sailor was experiecing. He also wrote short stories such as the "Church Party" and was writting his second novel which he never completed before his untimely death. I highly recommend anyone interested to read his works.
