As an inept american, I am not not well versed in "Australian Culture". I do know that many people of adventurous spirit had to persevere against harsh conditions, and that is absolutely something to be proud of. I don't however see our adoption of Octoberfest, Cinco de Mayo, or St. Patricks day as diluting our culture. Rather another day to have fun.
Check out our halloween costume, "Halloween 2011 Hobo's Portland"

I was reading the comments on this page. Does Aussies hate Americans that much

is this a joke? you act like it's some conspiracy. it's a harmless holiday...at least in the usa. americans can't help it if some australians abuse the holiday. perhaps it's best that a convict nation not celebrate halloween.

Australia has little culture anyway. There are very few good shows and films anyway. Beside American stuff and traditions tend to sound alot better than England's (No Offense) but I don't like their shows except quizzes and little Britain and Might Boosh. Plus what else can you replace Halloween with... a day where we hug rabbits or stuff like that. Australia has little culture because of it not being just one nation. Its made of many countries, so don't bother talking about our culture.

Well halloween is balancing on par/equal of liking as christmas. Why do people do christmas which isn't even Australian but don't do halloween which start with a celtic background. Maybe Australians are becoming scaredy cats and losed ther courage in the unknown void of spookiest. don't compare Halloween with that of valentine or whatever small day celebration. i want a day to celebrate horror things not just once a year christmas. Don't make Australia boring for us multicultural Australians.
um...it is not originally an American tradition. :|

The impression I'm getting is that many Australians seem to think of Halloween as a bad thing. In England, its a happy time! Everyone enjoys themselves and the vast majority of people don't mind people knocking on their doors. : )

alot of Aussies do not like it, because they see it as American culture invading our culture.
