  • kind of funny that the ships like uss enterprise , hms illustrious and hms warspite which were in the thick of the action during WW2 and survived severe damage and earned numerous battle honours were just sold for scrap with little thought.

  • Well I believe that towards the end of the war, the U.S. believed there was "No initial threat anymore" now that the axis nations were defeated. They decided to reduce the strength of the military.

  • The Big E

    The Grey Ghost

    The Galloping Ghost

    CV(N)-6

    USS Enterprise

The First CV to sucsessfully launch a night attack

The most decorated warship in WWII

1 of only 2 CVs to start, and finish the war, but it was enterprise herself that pretty much saved the US in the pacific, Enterprise VS Japan and The Big E won.

In the battle of Okinawa the admiral in charge could have chosen an Essex class carrier as his flagship after the first one was nearly destroyed but he chose Enterprise.

  • i just bought a CV6 enterprise hat to memorize her since i heard she was not in the world anymore, but she will be remembered.

  • You really tried to do a good job memorializing the Big E with the pictures and notes. I applaud your efforts since she was a great ship worthy of all our recognition. I also agree whole heartedly that it was a disgrace that she was scrapped as if she was just another piece of metal. No disrespect intended, the music takes a great deal away from it. By the way I am an avid AC/DC fan from their beginning, so it’s not about not liking rock. Thanks for keeping the ENTERPRISE, CV 6 alive!!

  • @kaang69 I totally agree with you. I believe that Adm. Halsey led an effort to preserve her, but they were unable to raise enough funds. I also think that the Big E has more accomplishments then any other ship preserved and that if any ship was to be saved, it should have been her.

  • In my opinion, it was a crime to scrap this ship. She should have been a museum ship. Maybe if the surrender had of taken place on her instead of the Missouri, she would still be around. It would have been fitting since she was one of the main targets of the Japanese at Pearl Harbour & she served the entire war in the pacific

A sad end to a gallant ship & thoe that served upon her

I memory of all those who served & sacrificed on USS Enetrprise CV-6, I Salute you & we will all remember you

  • @AJStudios92 Indeed debt was through the roof because of the war and demilitarization made alot of sense.

  • SHE WON THE WAR FOR US HOW COULD YOU AMERICANS JUST SCRAP IT LIKE THAT

  • Its Japan vs 1 ship

  • @shathriel It has been modified to its maximum level and can no longer cope up with Jet technology...though i do think they should have made it a floating museum

  • Enterprise V. Japan

  • @candr it is because truthfully, no one wanted to remember the war at all. It was so awful and so cosuming, that when it was over, everyone was just glad the damn thing was finally over. No one spoke much about the war, and everyone looked ahead and went to work and got on with their lives. Yes, PTSD, etc... did exist, but people just dealt with it and went to work and stuffed all that back where it belonged. So there was no interest in preserving machines of war.
