Slight in the sense that it's only 30~40 minerals ahead. Significant in the sense that it can still be a substantial lead when used to your advantage, especially in higher leagues. As he mentioned, it can give you up to a 9 second lead on your timings, and the top tier of players usually have their timings so refined that any little advantage like this over their opponent can be important.

To deal with runaway SCVs when right clicking a specific node, select two SCV's. I still have to spam right click, but just to keep the runaway SCV close - I know I can stop clicking as soon as the SCV that is already mining begins to return his cargo. After that last click, they are in sync.
