Lyrics :
Mick came home late last night
He drank enough beer to take the edge off a knife
And she opens the door, looking older than before
He said, "Rosy, you're too good a girl"

She let him in, he lifted up her dress
Like an apology began to kiss her breast
And he felt much relieved as the ceiling fan tapped out a broken melody

And she said, "Do you remember when we were younger and bitter words were said,
Making up was your favorite part
But, I ain't young no more
And I'm sorry will not mend a broken heart."

He came home threw his things on the floor
She worked up the courage to say what she never had before
But the words got lost inside
He got that look in his eye as the sun went shining on

And she said, "Do you remember when we were younger and bitter words were said,
Making up was always your favorite part
Well, I ain't young no more
And I'm sorry will not mend a broken heart."

Well the judge knew well Mick was a violent man
She got a few headlines, she got a slap on the hand
And there ain't no villains and there ain't no heroes
People on both sides of the tracks trying to add up a whole bunch of zeroes
And time marches on until it's all gone

She said, "Do you remember when we were younger and bitter words were said,
Making up was always your favorite part
Well, I ain't young no more
And I'm sorry will not mend a broken, a broken heart."

  • sorry will not mend a broken heart thats like the greatest saying in the world

  • ahaha.. that's alright. i wish she would somehow put an explanation for the songs she writes. i think they are pieces of art and it's always interesting to really understand what the artist meant to do. There is something so honest about her art and that's what makes it different.. compare to the other commun pop singers of her generation.

  • @lamusevenale till she just made slutty pop crap with intuition

  • 'slap on the hand' is an expression that means that a punishment wasn't a heavy one, or that there was no punishment for an action at all.

Mick was an abusive husband, and Rosy murdered him.

The judge understood her situation, and let her off on a lighter punishment, thus, "slap on the hand".

  • I so love this song and I prefer this version over the one on her new cd.

I don't have this song in my Jewel collection

other than the cd version, would love to add it!!

  • Yes, he's a wife beater and she kills him. I love this song. Going on the new cd but it sounds different.

  • no better song has ever ben written

  • Yeah I'm not sure either to be honest, I'm just listening to what people have said lol

  • is that what it is? because she says : ''he got that look in his eye as the sun went shining on'' and that kinda feels like she forgave him.. but yeah with the judge thing it sounds like she killed him.. but just a slap on the hand???

  • This is a great song, but very sad.Apparently Rosy kills Mick..
