One day I wrote her name upon the strand,
but came the waves and washed it away:
Again I wrote it with a second hand,
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.
Vain man, said she, that doest in vain assay
a mortal thing so to immortalize,
for I myself shall like to this decay,
and eek my name be wiped out likewise.
Not so (quoth I), let baser things devise
to die in dust, but you shall live by fame:
my verse your virtues rare shall eternize,
and in the heavens write your glorious name.
When whereas Death shall all the world subdue,
out love shall live, and later life renew.
this is nice..i badly need this for my class presentation..but i cant get the code.:(

I love this visual interpretation of Spenser's sonnet; well done! There is a dreamlike quality and an undercurrent of melancholy you draw out of the poem that is quite moving. Please make more films, Ms. Millen; you are a very talented director and your film educates us in Renaissance poetry as it breathes new life into this great Spenserian sonnet.

It's a nice idea, and the visuals help convey the idea of the poem. But I have to say, even though I'm from North America too, that you really need the speaker to have a British accent for the poetry to sound right.
