The good moments are always the best. Even though you've gone through the worst, you're rewarded for your patience. Enjoy happiness while it lasts. Because the next time you look, it's gone.

We sat down in the grass next to the path. I pulled out our food and we started eating. Everything was silent, for which I was glad. I didn't want to have to lie to Abigail. It hurt every time. As soon as I finished, I started getting the horse ready to ride again but Abigail stopped me.
"Are we leaving already?"
"We still have a long way to go."
"We're not in any rush. Let's sit down and talk."
I gulped nervously. "Are you sure? It's going to take a while to get there."
"Why do you want to get there so soon? Come and sit with me." Her eyes were so pleading and how could I say no to such a beautiful girl? I walked over and sat next to her in the grass.
"Are you excited to see your parents?" I tried to steer the conversation so I wouldn't have to talk about that marriage.
"Very. I miss them a lot. I wonder how they're doing."
"I'm sure they're doing great. And they'll be glad to know that you're being taken care of." I brushed her cheek and she smiled.
"I have such a strong, sweet man to protect me."
I wrapped my arms around her small waist and brought her closer. "Oh, look! A bear," I said sarcastically. She giggled and I put her on the floor, putting myself on her. "I have to protect you!" She laughed and I smiled.
"Oh, you saved me, sir! How can I ever thank you?" she said, sarcastically of course. We both laughed at our little act.
"How about a kiss?"
"Anything for my savior." I laughed and leaned down to kiss her. She took my face in her hands and pulled me down to where our lips met in a sweet kiss. Our lips moved together in a perfect manner of love. I really wanted to marry this girl. She pulled away. "I love you so much."
"Love already? All I did was save you."
She giggled. "Joe, I'm serious."
"I love you too." She smiled and we continued to kiss.
After a while of that, we decided that it was time to continue towards Ridgeway. We got on the horse and continued on our little trip. We finally arrived and everything was so new to me. I never really went anywhere as the Prince and I realized I was missing out on a lot.
We got off the horse and we walked around. Abigail went up to a woman that was hanging wet clothes on a line. "Excuse me, ma'am. Do you know where Marie and Jonathan Stevens live?"
"I do. And who are you?"
"I'm their daughter."
"Oh. And who is this young man?"
I smiled. "Prince Joseph from the Kingdom of Delta. Can you point us to her parents' house?"
"Of course, Your Highness. It's right over there." She pointed to a small house that looked much like the other one.
"Thank you."
We walked over to the house and Abigail knocked. She became nervous but I knew she was excited to finally get to see her parents. The door opened and I heard a scream. Abigail and her mother embraced in a warm hug. I saw a tear slip out of Marie's eye. She really missed her daughter.
"Oh, Abigail, I missed you so much, honey. Are you having fun?"
"Yeah, everything is great. I missed you too, Mom."
"Come on in, you two." We entered and their house was a lot nicer than the other one. I guess they had gotten more money now.
"Where's Dad?"
"At the shop. He opened his own blacksmith shop. It's very nice. How are you sweetheart?"
"I'm fine. Everything is perfect." Her hand found mine and I intertwined our fingers.
After a while, Jonathan came home and we all started talking about everything. It was great to be with them again. They were such nice people. They were great parents too. It made me wish I had parents like them. We stayed for dinner and we ate together. It felt like a real dinner, like I had a real family.
It was getting dark and we had to get back to the castle as quick as we could. We said goodbye and got on the horse. We started riding back towards the village. It was getting incredibly dark and I couldn't quite see anymore. Abigail was scared and cold. I didn't know what to do.
"Joe, maybe we should go back. We could spend the night with my parents and come back in the morning. I'm scared."
"Don't worry. We'll get there soon. Let's just keep going."
"Okay." She held on tighter and we kept riding.
We finally made it back to the castle and I quickly took Abigail into my room. I put her on the bed and she almost instantly fell asleep. I got in with her and fell asleep next to her.
I woke up the next morning with a mission. I was going to ask Abigail to marry me. I loved her more than anything and I couldn't live without her. I had to ask her soon. But I knew how much we would have to deal with to actually get married.

He won't propose to her. It'll be just like everything else. He says he wants to and knows he should and then takes forever doing it and lying to her along the way. Just like when he wouldn't tell her he was the prince. I don't think they'll actually end up together because Joe clearly can't stop with the lying and procrastination and eventually Abigail's going to get tired of forgiving him and taking him back.

I agree with Emily. I think it's come to the point now where he's scared of what may come if he married Abigail. I mean, he's had it drummed into him that he needs to marry someone rich, a princess, and I don't think he likes the consequences if those laws weren't obeyed. His mom, for one thing, will probably abandon him or something. I can imagine her saying "YOU ARE NO SON OF MINE!"....or...something lol
However, this is, once again, a brilliant chapter. Don't ever stop...never ever.

Nope. He's not going to ask her... He should, but deep down inside, he's too afraid. It's not about causing Abigail pain anymore - I think - it's because he's scared himself. That's my take on things anyways.
I simply love Abigail's parents. I really wish Joe's parents were like that too, instead of him having that she-can-go-die-in-a-ditch mother.... He simply deserves more than that, even when not everyone must think so 'cause of his lying.
