This is the Philadelphia Flyers' Ron Hextall tribute video which was played in the arena and aired on television prior to the game versus the Washington Capitols on Feb 6th 2008. Thank you Hexy for so many entertaining moments and such wonderful memories. There will never be another player who can fill the crease you left behind. You will NEVER be forgotten!

  • This video is Hexcellent.

  • They should put Ron Hextall in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was one of the very best ever. The Flyers had a ton of glory with him in nets. The goals he scored, the fights, Hex did everything except win the Cup. Hey Dave, do you know if Hex ever had a fight with Messier? If not, who would win? Hex? LOL

  • 0:58 get that kid a contract

  • When thee Wayne Gretzky say someone is the best... you cant argue otherwise...

  • Most athletic goalie of all time

  • Great video, got goosebumps. I forgot how awesome Hex was. Hockey needs more character players like Hex.

Some goalies give up softies, ie. Grant Fuhr, but then get stronger and stronger as the game progresses. Hex was one of my favorites. Awesome.

    Cheers

  • yo this is the first time i ever left a comment on you tube but after watching the hbo special on the boad street bullies i honestly feel that they set the santard of what we expect fom our team n hextall was a definitly a broad street bully/flyer from the get go....and i am a baseball fan not a hockey but i wont lie i jump on the band wagon around this time .....te me the best playoffsare hockey besdies baseball

  • Hextall was awesome wish I could have seen him play more. The Flyers haven't been the same since he left

  • Hextall set the bar so high his rookie year that is would be difficult for ANY goalie to play like that on a consistent level. To say that he "couldn't stop a watermelon" is just wrong. Look at his numbers. Again, he lead the league in GAA in 95-96 with a 2.17 and had the same number the following year. That means he was stopping an awful lot of "watermelons". Hextall is currently #25 on the all time wins list with a better WP than many above him. He was certainly one of the best of his era.

  • It is always way too easy to blame the goalie and not look at what is going on around him. I unfortunately have all 4 of those games on tape. There were SO many odd man breaks and breakaways on the Flyers goalies in that series. The Wings were just a great team that year firing on all cylinders.

  • I agree with you Frozintoe, No doubt his best year was his first year, he was never the same after that, he couldnt stop a watermelon. As for handling the puck, he invented it, perfected it, and scored. Twice. Hextall will be one of the best Flyers goaltenders, but nothing more then that.
