WD 500GB 7200rpm HDD has suddenly crashed. I was checking warranty and found it was already expired. So I open cover and check interia parts for my study.

  • @moogleii Seal labels have to be removed. And then you can see some more screws. Please be careful when you remove top cover. Because of that gasket is very sticky material. Please enjoy!!

  • it would be cool if you showed how you removed the outer casing. I've removed all the visible screws on my WD, but I still can't seem to get the cover off. There are some metallic stickers. Did you remove those first?

  • @c0rrupts3ct0r555 This HDD was never dropped under both system and stand alone condition at my home. It has been installed to small desktop before delivery to my home. (It was in some popular brand BTO compact desktop) So I never know what caused this sudden death. Of course no SMART alarm has been appeared. And I had no opportunity to check SMART parameter before the disaster.

  • yikes.. that had a nice head crash on the end of the platters....... what caused it to crash like that, was it dropped?
