One of my favorite scenes from another of my favorite movies. This is the dream from Blade Runner, not found in the 1982 cut but found in the others. It involves Rick Deckard's dream that becomes somewhat of a controversial topic amongst fans and interpreters.

From 1982's (2007's version) Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, starring Harrison Ford.

  • @Oucluscupitumamo1 I don't know, equal in strength? If I remember correctly...doesn't Deckard get his ass kicked and almost killed by every replicant in the movie? It seems like if he didn't have that gun he couldn't put up a fight with the replicants at all...

  • @MikeAM78 maybe that is why Deckard should be a replicant. The audience should be connecting with him regardless if he's a replicant or not. Thus it resolves back to the original context from "Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep" At what point are we real? When do begin to 'FEEL' alive?

  • I know Ridley Scott feels Deckard is a Replicant, but I'm with Harrison Ford and Hampton Fancher: I prefer Deckard to be a human because, like Ford said, the audience should have at least one real human character with which they can emotionally connect.

  • @catesjd It's a common belief that the Unicorn shot was from "Legend," but it's been stated many times by those involved that it was indeed shot specifically for "Blade Runner." However, the countryside footage from the alternate "Happy Ending" was indeed take from film shot for "The Shining," but it was from footage ultimately not used in that film.

  • Deckard was a Replicant red glow in eyes no back history Bryant at the Police Station had to tell Deckard that Replicants had a 'four year life span' Being a Blade Runner wouldn't Deckard known that ? He was reprogramed by Tyrell industries to chase & kill the Replicants because he was equal in strength. Deckard realises he is one by this dream & the Unicorn Gaff leaves at the end as Gaff knows his dream 'You've done a man's job, but then again are you really a man' Gaff says in a now cut scene

  • I think that Unicorn is from "Legend" another Ridley Scott film...and he also used scenes at the end of Blade Runner from "The Shining."

  • @dsdan83 I think it's supposed to be more of a daydream or a memory than an actual dream.

  • Does Deckard actually dream while sleeping? because I don't think he has his eyes closed at any certain point of time while imagining the unicorn. I might be wrong.

  • @abbeykroeter I watched the movie ('07 version) just yesterday for the first time and was afraid it might be too old for me, but I was completely immersed. The futuristic Japanese-ish landscape, the dark and grim visuals (contrasted with bright city lights and the buzzing life), the eerie-yet-comforting music effects. a beautiful setting to then begin to contemplate the (in)imitability of human nature. wow..

  • Could have spoken for me!. One of my favorite scenes and probably my all time favorite movie. I know other fantastic films, with cleaner story telling, greater range of acting, spectacular action, less gaffs or mistakes and all that statistically makes a film "great", but NOTHING has come close to making me feel like Blade Runner makes me feel. My taste may be strange, but I want to step in that world, find "Rachel", and live in that dangerous, dark, filthy, yet beautiful world.
