This was from my first cross-country flight in a complex airplane (it has retractable gear and an adjustable prop). We are flying into the airport just beside Kitty Hawk. Some of the Wright Brothers first flights took place just to the left of the approach end of the runway in this video.

  • how do u like your 296?

  • Pretty well, though I checked out a 396 this weekend and the XM weather was pretty impressive.

  • Was that a crosswind landing?

  • Yeah, there was a bit of wind from the right

  • Good idea, thanks!

  • Kitty Hawk's on the coast of NC - a nice place to visit for sure!

  • awesome job, flying in tomorrow from PA in a Skyhawk, look forward to seeing where it all began!

  • @lycoming0320 also floats can take the place of retracts and still be complex. FAA Order 8710.3E

  • @lycoming0320 also floats can take the place of retracts and still be complex.

  • @androidfarmer , actually, complex means: retractable gear, variable pitch prop, and flaps. A plane can have 2 of the 3 and not be complex.

  • I passed my private checkride in kitty hawk on the same day the wright brothers first flew, only 98 years later.

  • @androidfarmer And "constant speed prop"

  • @drummer987 not necessarily

  • According to 14 CFR 61.31 (e) (1), a complex airplane is defined as "an airplane that has a retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller; or, in the case of a seaplane, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller."

  • SWEET FLAP CONTROL!
