Performance:Nishigoushi-higashi Elementary school
This band started in May, 2008.
Therefore, they are beginners within ten months.
However, they did the maximum effort in the short span of time.
This is a graduation performance on March 22, 2009.

  • There is a lot of talent in America too, but we tend to downplay early music education. Our 5th and 6th grade bands meet only twice a week, with one instructor, and many of the kids are learning an instrument for the first time. I bet most of these kids played piano or violin from age 2 or 3, which is a huge help in learning any other instrument. They are good, but they have the advantage of meeting daily, probably private lessons for each one, and supportive parents.

  • the sound a lot better than our high school band...

  • that is just kind of sad, making kids learn instruments at like 2

  • intonation is quite impressive for their age. Half the time our high school band can't play in tune. and the air support is amazing especially in the brass

  • Last time I checked, high woodwinds were at the front of the band. The percussion is a little too loud in general. As a percussion player since I was three, the cymbal player is playing with very poor cymbal technique...AH! Otherwise, great sound, especially by the low brass with help from the bass.

  • Awesome performance though

  • @CLYWGNARWHALS

second part The only music lessons they get to do is with one of those song-flutes we use in 3rd grade or something (All though some schools use brass instruments during elementary school). And thats up until 6th grade. They finally get to use woodwind and brass instruments in highschool. Anyway, you are right about the Piano and violin part though. Just cuz wer're asian doesn't mean were good at everything. (But thats usually true) =D

OK, first of all, my middle school in America meets everyday of the week, and I'm half Japanese, fluent in it, and go there every summer to my grandparents house, and I am quite aware that they barely meet up at all for band practices AT ALL! They only meet up a few times a week during summer break.

  • @susanmg13 More like parents that make them practice at gunpoint

  • @susanmg13 I agree with jrdatz...half of the stuff you said was stereotypical. You're making assumptions with little to no evidence of who these kids are. I myself am also asian, so.. stuff like this just slightly bothers me
