Torchlight
Much like Heroes of newearth is sort of an update for Dota
Torchlight is kind of an update for diablo.
It has much of the same music, sound effects and gameplay but it mixes
in alot of new things as well.
Torchlight is one of the longest games I have ever played in fact it has
replay value pretty much only limited by your own fantasy but still that
was said about little big planet and I got bored of that game pretty fast
any ways back to the subject. Torchlight is a point and click type
dungeon crawler and it features 3 different characters a mage, an archer
and a warrior, hundreds of unique enemies and bosses, a never ending
amount of tunnels and a ton of loot.
About the loot it's almost as if it's too much of it.
There are everything from normal capes to enchanted boots that does ice
damage and give you mana.
There is potions, scrolls and runes all very useful.
For example there are scrolls that makes portals and scrolls that identifies
unidentified loot (yes pretty much all the loot has you waste scrolls on them
just to find out they aren't even worth the scroll.)
Sure it has become sort of a standard and when shooters start using perks
the skills tree is nothing special but there is a huge one anyways and it
can give you more spells, more attack power, better buying deals and more.
You also have a pet that helps you through out the game and whilst it might
not be the most badass animal I've seen it can lend you a hand and cover your
back if you need a minute to decide what loot to keep.
You can also give it fish to give it special abilities and extra perks
you can even asign rings and collars to it. (yay!?)
You level up by getting enough XP and for eachlevel you can asign an extra
skill and several extra points towards strengh, defense, magic or dextricity
depending on theese points you have different Attack power, armor and more
+ it's theese that are required to equip armor, for example a ring might
need you to have 47 magic points, 30 defense points and level 20.
But you can also gain fame wich you get from completing quests and slaying
bosses. Theese "fame-levelups" can be used for 1 extra skill per level.
The dungeons are based on floors, each floor feature alot of enemies, a few bosses and
some chests. After usualy 2 floors you get to the boss floor wich after even more enemies
faces you against a big ass boss and here is where the story moments take place but more of
that later. After the boss there's usually a cutscene and then you get a free portal
to the town "Torchlight" It's there you go when you're out of quests, need to sell,
buy, rest or just annoy people.
The town has mercheants, questgivers, smiths and kids running around it circles.
It's a pieceful town and it has some of the best music I've heard in a game
for along time.
The graphics are stylish and colourful. They are a bit cartoonish and nice
to look at. It's very detailed and fine but there are afew textures that
could've been sharper and more detailed but overall they are nice.
8/10
The gameplay is simple and enjoyable. You simply klick to move or attack
rightclick to use your second attack (for example a spell or a fish)
You use the customizable 1 through 0 keys to use magics and scrolls
keep in mind that you can only have 4 spells on you at the same time
however you can carry around lots of them in the spell section of the
inventory.
You can also shift between 2 spells with the tab key and with A you can change
map type for example no map, minimap or map in the middle of the screen.
10/10
The Music is great, there's creepy soundtracks for the dungeons, epic for a few ocations¨
and the beautiful music in the town.
The sound is great as well and yes you'll be hearing "I need more mana" for a hundred
hours straight. Oh and the voice acting is straight on.
7/10
The story is good, it's intresting but not that great. It's about a dude who went to the
caves to get some gold or whatever but then he got corrupt by the ember and now you have
to slay him. From what I know it's pretty unique and it's fine but you're just not playing
for the story.
6/10
The replay value is as said high, really high, almost unlimited. there's not much to say.
I've heard people have been playing for a hundred and thirthy hours.
11/10
TOTAL 31/50 Great game
If you like dungeon crawlers, oblivion or Rpgs in general for that matter check it out. It's worth the price!
Oh and did you know that some of the music is from diablo 2? its ok because some of the people who created torchlight helped blizzard with diablo, Im not sure but my cousin told me this, and he knows a lot about games
