What I did on a few recent rainy evenings!

The images from my pretty lazy vid are from the 1907 movie "L'Eclipse du soleil en pleine lune" by Georges Melies (worth watching the original for the uncut eclipse scene, which made me blush). The midi file was downloaded off the Internet, though I edited it to work with GarageBand. Song, of course, is originally by XTC.

  • Ah. George Melies, a sci-fi film technique pioneer and the one who did the adaptation of Jules Verne that everyone has seen some of. Editing in camera, forced perspective, and super-imposition are tricks he used. Add the optical printer (for dissolves) and editing non-sequential elements to suggest relationships in time and space (D.W. Griffiths), and you have all the film tricks as you really need. What a really clean print too. Nice singing. It should rain more often in the Northwest. Wait.
