Ah. George Melies, a sci-fi film technique pioneer and the one who did the adaptation of Jules Verne that everyone has seen some of. Editing in camera, forced perspective, and super-imposition are tricks he used. Add the optical printer (for dissolves) and editing non-sequential elements to suggest relationships in time and space (D.W. Griffiths), and you have all the film tricks as you really need. What a really clean print too. Nice singing. It should rain more often in the Northwest. Wait.
