Rosa Lee Watson and Doc Watson wrote Your Long Journey. More recently Alison Krause and Robert Plant covered it on their 2007 Raising Sand album. I have the extreme honor and privilege of doing this song with the artist formerly known as Anna100l. She is incredibly talented as you can hear and also more patient than most would have been with me. I have never sung harmony before and after a few tries I was quite intimidated and felt like giving up. On my first tries of the harmony, Im sure Anna rolled her eyes and wondered what she got into. They were incredibly awful. Then Anna actually sent me a demo of how to do the harmony and that is what I used to practice. As a side note, as I was doing research on the song, I learned that Robert Plant also had difficulty with the harmony and Alison Krause actually sang it for him to show him how. I felt a little better with that knowledge.
Anna turned me on to this song and I was immediately struck by it. I started looking for tabs for the dulcimer straight off. Unfortunately, there were none to be found, so this is my dulcimer and banjo interpretation of Mike Seegers (RIP) Autoharp playing. Mike Seeger was Pete Seegers half brother. I feel this is an incredibly beautiful song, and the more I played it, the more I fell in love with it. Isnt it so cool that a fine Gal from an ancient city in Germany can make music with a guy who lives in the middle of the woods in Northern Wisconsin? I hope Anna enjoyed this collaboration as much as I did.
Unfortunately, Anna has recently closed her YT channel for understandable reasons. YouTube land is an emptier spot for that loss. I am sure many of you have a few favorite channels that you go to listen to good music. Anna was one of those few for me. Anna, I hope you reconsider and join this community again. If not, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you did on this song and more importantly for your friendship, patience and kindness. I have learned a lot from this collaboration on how to make a quality video and more efficient ways to record, sing and enjoy music. I play music. Anna; you gave me a hint on how to make music. For that I am truly grateful. You are a gem!
Btw, Anna did ALL the mixing and editing of this rendition. All I did was send her my pieces, which ended up recorded with all different lag times, out of tune, and out of rhythm. I dont know how that happens, and I dont know how she handled that! With all that, I think we came up with something presentable.
John Dulcimer, Banjo, Harmony Vocals
Anna Guitar, Lead Vocals, Mixing, Editing, Teaching, Gritting teeth, Ear plugging, Hair pulling, and patience (if any would have heard my first harmony tries, you would understand Anna, Good God, I hope you deleted those files!) XD
Thank you Anna!

Really enjoyed your version of this song, great collaboration.I know it is not easy when the other person is on the other side of the world !

@traprainmusic Ah yes, it would be much easier to be in the same room, but somehow, it wouldn't quite be the same. I really enjoyed your Crazy Man Michael collab with Kitty too! But mostly, I am certainly pleased to make your aquaintance.

Well done both - an excellent transatlantic collaboration - you could almost be in the same room. Having worked with Anna on two classical duets I echo the compliments expressed elsewhere on her great voice and musicianship. John - you made an equal contibution to this haunting song, both vocally and with the ideal backing. Ganz ausgezeichnetes Stueck!
