  • Wish id known about this 11 years ago when i left school... Too old now :( never mind ill do it next time

  • 292m... thats a big ship.. im guessing its comercial? i want to go comercial, working for my QMED ATM. how do you like the cadetship? thaught about doing that too but i hear alot of bad things about being a cadet.

  • @live2ski550 Last ship I was on, as a cadet, was m/v Atlantic Companion, 292m. We had 3 2nd mates who worked 4hrs watches. c/m + capt. worked only daytime.

  • @raVen670 last boat i was on was a m/y claire, shes 50m. decent size boat, and the captain had just as many watches as i did.

  • @live2ski550 Yeah different watch systems. The last boat I was on, we had 3 2nd mates that navigated, C/M only worked with cargo handling and the captain did paperwork and planning. But I know on some smaller ships the C/M also has a navigational watch and sometimes even the captain.

  • @raVen670 yes captain dos alot of paperwork... but when underway they usualy plot the course and navigate the ship. but EVERY boat is different,

  • @live2ski550 Navigation is mostly the second mates job though. Captain and chief mates rarely do any navigation at all based on what I've experienced. Captains do ALOT of paperwork and keeps contact with the port/agents/office and chief mate is in charge of deck work and cargo handling.

  • @live2ski550 ..oh ok ...thanks for you help i live in trinidad and lookin into this as a career. it looks like a fun and excitin job ...

  • @stephon77indtri i am a marine engineer, i went to school at mpt in fort lauderdale. navigation is the captains and the first mates job. and a chief engineer makes around the same as a captain.

  • hey some one can answer my question .....who gets more pay ..navation or engineering ..and what is difference between these 2 ?? thanks !!
