I got to the parking lot around 10 am. We started hiking up and soon we got to see some views. It was raining on the drive there and looked like a crappy day but it cleared up and was partly cloudy when we started hiking. It wasnt long until we got to the first cap and above treeline. The caps were hard. A lot of parts I had to stop and think about how im going to climb up. It was slippery from rain earlier which made the caps even more hard. I didnt feel to good about that. Barley any cracks or ledges to hold on climbing up the second cap. One slip you fall 100 feet and smash against a few rocks on the way. By the time I got to the second cap there were no trees at all. Before there were little 1 foot tall trees now theres nothing but rock and grass. We took a minute break and watched as other groups of hikers quit and turned back after seeing how hard and dangerous the caps were. After we got up the real steep part close to the summit on Jefferson I was unmotivated when I saw another giant hill to climb. But I kept pushing on and got to the summit. On top I had lunch which was a McDonald's egg biscuit. On the way down my camel back ran out of water and I had just a half liter of water left in my backpack. I drank over 4 liters of water just going up. On the way down I kept slipping on the rocks and somehow managed not to hurt myself. The second cap I slid right down a 45 degree angle about 50 feet. Later I noticed one of my hiking poles was missing. We found it hanging on a branch right on top of the slide i fell down.

  • awesome vid! thanks for sharing! was that a moose at the end?

  • Thanks, Yeah that was a moose. Never thought id see a live one in New Hampshire.

  • at the beginning of the vid the trail you were on looked like it was for quad/atvs

  • You could drive a atv for the first hundred feet or so then the trail gets real narrow and hard to walk straight.

  • One of my favorite hikes.

The Great Gulf is pretty sweet too...

  • Thanks for the video response. Haven't been to Great Gulf but thats a hike for later. Right now id be lucky if I made it up the stairs. I had a lot of plans to do some overnight hikes and be able to get a bunch of 4000 footers in a 2 days. Are you a member of Views from the top?

  • Fun video, and such beautiful countryside!

  • No, not a member. Just a life-long casual hiker/camper.

  • so are you realy a ranger or is that just your channel name?/ because iv always wondered what it would be like to be a ranger. maby you can teach me about the subject

  • Thanks for the comment. For me it was a 2 hour drive. There are 6 other 5000 + ft mountains I have to climb and 1 6000 one. Ill be making videos on those. If you ever get a chance to do something big go for it its a whole different world up there. Any big mountains in the south?

  • Hey Randy, long time no see. My dad is doing better his arms are still bad he cant move them all the way but its nothing compared to when it all started. Thanks.

  • Yeah I was thinking somethings wierd with the sound. Thanks for the tip. Still snow where you live? Where are you from?
