The Smart Grid is where the future of energy is headed, but is it really necessary? Who do you want to have control over your dish washer and laundry machines? Will you control them they way that the smart grid would want you to?
Actually they WILL need your permission, but you have to keep in mind that your rate base is going to count on them being able to HELP you keep your rates low. If you deny them permission, it's likely that you will be placed on a higher rate schedule. It's really hard to say at this point. Every utility is likely to be different.
