The De Vere The Dormy Hotel in Ferndown was one of the largest country-style conference hotels on the south coast. Set in 12 acres of landscaped grounds, it had 114 bedrooms and 25 suites, spread across 2 main blocks and several smaller buildings, all linked by glass corridors. It also had conference and banqueting suites, along with a sizeable leisure centre.

The original part of hotel was built circa 1900 and during the First and Second world was believed to have been used as a hospital for returning soldiers.

The hotel was closed on 15th December 2005, as a result of weak business results compared with other hotels in the De Vere portfolio.

  • is it still there if so can u give me sum directions

  • As far as I know it is still there. However, last I heard it was securely fenced and boarded now days. It's in Ferndown and a quick Google will give you an address.

  • Nice exped :) I headed over there yesterday to see if there was any way of getting in, but those damn vandals (or security, whatever) have gone and put up 8 foot fences all the way around with ribbon strip on the top. Shame really, looked great from the other side. Found one promising entry point but there was anti-climb paint everywhere and I didn't want to get stuck inside having gotten in. Looks like you'll be the last.

    Ben

  • How it changes in a year! When I was there there were fences ... 5 foot ones across only the tarmacked entrances! Errr ... I'll just walk around the side of that then ;-).

  • Its 2011 and the hotel is still derelict, still boarded up and no access. I'm gutted as a year before it was closed I used the gym and pool - it was luxury! We used the dance studio's and the squash courts. In the 90's I remember waiting outside for Take That to come out. In the 80's my family used the hotel.

    Such a waste.....bring it back!!

  • I worked here as a decorator in the 90's,it's a real shame it was left to get in this state,it's still the same today,a right mess!

  • Wow, what a shock at this time of the day... I was working there as a waitress back in 1998! I still think about the time than every once in a while; like I did right now and so I got the idea to look it up at YouTube... and I found this video... I sure had the best time of my life there in Ferndown. Working there with so many nice people from all over the world was such a great pleasure. Most of all I miss my friend Diego with whom I had so many laughs at that nasty female boss inthe restaurant

  • Hola a todos, yo estuve algunas semanas en 1999 y en el 2000, me quede en shock cuando vi el video, tenia muy buenos recuerdos...I made a couple of friends, the bartenders of the Dormy, we exchanged some drinks recipes, me from Tijuana and them from the Great Britain...thank you guys, I had the hangover of my life thanks to you hahaha....
