2001 Eclipse GT vs. 2004 Jetta GLI 1.8t

My best friend Chris just got his '04 Jetta GLI and we have discovered that it is a perfect match in a race with my '01 Eclipse GT. Both cars are at stock performance, and a win is almost solely determined by the amount and type of gas in the cars. I have a full tank of unleaded in these videos (can't afford premium quite yet) and chris is running a 1/4 tank of premium. In the 90-pull we get up to 120, and the 1/4 mile we finish at around 100 but continue to like 110. I've hit 145 in my Eclipse and I'm sure it won't be long before chris does the same in the Jetta.

Also, Chris's 04 GLI was a 20th Anniversary and was in absolutely pristine condition, and my Eclipse had surely seen better days, but still ran fine. So ya in the end it was no doubt a very close race. But you gotta hand it to those crafty Germans and their well-built VW fast-car poster child. Congratulations GLI.

Oh but your hp numbers are wrong Davis. At first glance it does seem pretty weird that the GLI would win, especially considering:

The Eclipse makes 205hp with 3100lbs = 15.12lbs/hp

The GLI makes 180hp with 3200lbs = 17.77lbs/hp

But there are other factors... The GLI has shorter gearing (hence the 6-speed), allowing it to pass through it's powerband quicker.

We had raced hundreds of times before and were both driving flawlessly... Which is why it made for such close races and such great footage. Dude, your car is fucking slow. You got shit on by a jetta in a street race. Slow the fuck down Dominic Torreno. Next thing your going to think your Paul Wall racing for pink slips and hopefully lose your car before you kill someone, or maybe just wrap yours around a pole and kill yourself. You give not only eclipse's a bad name, but people who mod and race their cars at the TRACK! The only reason you don't go to the track is because your car is slow and you don't feel like being embarrassed.

no way a 04 gli can beat a 3g eclipse gt. You either suck at driving , or you shit is dirty (CAI, throttle etc...) lift up your hood so we can see the spider webs.

@RaceGrL88 v6 weigh too much more than a 4 to create any true power increase though. An inline 6 is a different story, fat 6's are great motors v6's are trash.

stock 01 eclipse GT has 200 horsepower.

the jetta won, and has more power. why should have this guy won again?

@Warcraft4You There is one tremendous flaw in your statement bud. Where the hell did you find a V6 Mustang GT? Either someone lied to you or you got a bit jumpy and overexcited trying to show off your jetta. Either way, I'd love to see a V6 Mustang GT.
