Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of the arcade smash hit SPY HUNTER, now made into a commercial by GM and Pontiac that we call the "Pontiac Spy Hunter Commercial" paying tribute to the Mach 5 style of the Spy Hunter-mobile. Spy Hunter is retro video gaming at its finest, but does the Atari version live up to the coin-op machine in the arcades? You drive a James Bond kind of a car with machine guns and oil slick and blow up enemy bad guys on the road and on the seas... or rivers. Sort of like the scene in Live in Let Die where Roger Moore drives a speedboat through the everglades or something... Maybe the new James Bond movie will be called Spyhunter and he'll drive the Mach 5 and the next Bond girl will be Trixie from Speed Racer.

Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. Wii, PS3, Xbox 360.

  • yeah.. you can compare the 2600 directly to the arcade which will be a comparison that the 2600 will always lose... however given the 2600 limitations this has to be an amazing port... easily one of the top 5 conversions. In the latter years the programmers sure figured out some amazing tricks.

  • The spy hunter theme is actually the Peter Gunn theme. Also this one is slower than the new one and the original arcade because it is less sophisticated.

  • I had the commodore 64 version and it was amazing...

  • I can't believe I never noticed that striking resemblance to the Mach 5.

  • Don't tell me that was a 1990 Video Toaster effect at 0:25 ??!?!

  • Despite the rudimentary graphics this is actually a better port of the arcade than the NES version. It's amazingly well done and very fun. A lot of the arcade classics really suffered badly in their 2600 conversions but they really nailed this one. Too bad it's pretty hard to find it's definitely one I want to add to my personal collection someday.

  • I'm amazed that they have the helicopter and even the boat levels in this, impressive for '77 tech.

  • chinchin? isn't that penis in japanese?

  • I'll never play anything less than NES.

  • Forget this! Just get the midway ps2 version!

  • Not surprising it was a good game, it was developed by SEGA after all.
