Doris Day - Glass Bottom Boat - Live!

Doris tended to form friendships with people in her films, so it's not unusual to see familiar people in the cast, in this case her sister in "Young At Heart." Everyone, and I mean everyone, who knows her says she is down to earth, totally realistic and beautifully kind to people. She herself has said she has never been the antiseptic goody two shoes people decided she was. But she is someone who values people who are, as she says, "right there,"
who cherishes nature and of course animals.

Brava! This brings back such great memories! I saw the movie again about a year ago for the first time in 30 years (I had forgotten everything except the dog-and-phone skit, and this melody) - but this is honest-to-god the most enchanting musical performance I can remember!
And I totally forgot that they did this number (two numbers) without backing music, and that it makes it so much better and more intimate!
Doris Day, UNPLUGGED!!!
-signed, another DayDreamer/DayNatic.

Doris Day recorded this one for a Columbia single. Arthur Godfrey cut his own version for MGM. I wouldn't be without either one. Love it!

I wonder if that part where she almost forgets the words was planned or not. It looks very natural. I love it.

@boxerdogs11 Couldn't have put it better myself! Doris needs Hollywood to give her her due respect whilst she is still with us. She has inspired me to help with dog adoptions and rescues. I love her movies especially this one. Brings back happy memories off my stay on Catalina Island.

My favorite Doris Day movie of all time. I wish I could meet her once and thank her for all the entertainment she provided over the years, and to thank her for being such a tender hearted dog lover. God bless you always Doris. Thanks for this great post.

..it was always so charming to 'have a song' in these movies from the sixties- especially in a movie that was not perported to be 'a musical' , so to speak.

Dayniac, it's so funny that you say that about your cat. Believe it or not, my four cats and one dog actually come and lie down next to the stereo when I have Doris playing. I'm not kidding! I guess they recognize an animal lover when they hear one! LOL
They also have very good taste!!! :)

I love this scene--it seems so real and warm. They (the actors) obviously really liked each other.
Thanks for a great post!!
During the publicity for this picture's release, Godfrey had the cast appear on his CBS network radio show, which was still running in 1966. This scene from the movie, clearly shot "live" with three cameras, like a television show, shows the good rapport Doris had with Godfrey, which as I remember (I was listening) was obvious on the radio show a year after the picture was shot.
